Frome Voices and Village Singers
repeat Carnegie Hall concert at Christ Church!
On Sunday 24th February at 3pm,
Singers from Frome Voices and Village Singers from near Chippenham, will repeat the Karl Jenkins’ “Symphonic Adiemus” in a concert at Christ Church, Christchurch Street West, Frome, which they last sang in Carnegie Hall, New York last month!
The Carnegie Hall concert celebrated the Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins’ 75th Birthday, and he was present at the performance given by an international choir of 250 voices.
“It was tremendously exciting” said Alan Burgess, who conducts Frome Voices. “We were all thrilled to be performing on the same stage as some of the world’s most renowned musical celebrities- Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald… and now Frome Voices. It was also a wonderful opportunity to show how a choir from a small English town can perform to the highest of choral standards.”
The performance of “Symphonic Adiemus” at Christ Church will be directed by Rachel McCorry, with Alan Burgess at the piano.
Admission will be free, but there will be donations for church funds.
Christ Church is very grateful to Frome Voices and Village Singers for performing in aid of the church, as about half a million pounds is going to be needed in the next few years for the church roof. The concert will end at 4.15 with tea and cake for audience and musicians. All are welcome!
The Scallop Shells Junior Choir meets on Fridays, 4.30-5.15pm in the church. If you know any child aged 4-9 who loves singing, and is interested in joining, email me for more information, or just turn up any Friday in term time: accompanying adults stay, and can have tea or coffee while the children sing. There will be no Scallop Shells on 22nd February, our half term break. We are having fun learning new songs. Watch this space for a concert before Easter!
