Our Story

Frome grew up around the monastery founded by St. Aldhem in 685CE. The fine agricultural land ensured that in the Middle Ages, Frome grew in size and prosperity to rival nearby Bath. The Industrial Revolution brought foundries and factories benefitting from the abundant water and nearby coalmines.
As the population grew there was a need for more churches and the churches of Christ Church and St. Mary's were built in the 19th Century.
Both churches tell the long stories of our community especially through our buildings and our churchyards.
It is a story that continues to be told and it is one worth sharing.

Our archives are kept in the Aldham Ashby Rooms in Frome, and Frome Museum. For further information please contact admin@christchurch-stmarys-frome.co.uk
